Why all this fuss about activation?

The whole reason we need to have the protection at all is that our fellow cruising yachts pirated our guides for years before we developed this protection. Nearly every boat coming to Vanuatu or New Caledonia had the old copies of our cruising guides and we were unable to sell our guides ourselves and no dealer would distribute them and nobody would advertise on the guides BECAUSE of all the piracy.

The Guide may not be sold to given to another owner. No license will be issued to anyone who has not bought the guide from a registered dealer or directly from this web site.

The license program is a pain for us as well as for our legitimate buyers but without it there would be no point in all the work that we have done and the money that we have spent to bring you the best cruising guides in the world.

The whole issue becomes even more complex because computers do break down and people do buy new computers - and some people want to have the guide installed on a back up computer. So what happens then? How can we know if the person wanting another activation code is not simply getting that code for a friend on another yacht?

That's the problem both you and I are faced with. So, here is what we have come up with.

My license stopped working and I get the registration box again!

The license is able to detect which computer it is on.

If you change your CD-ROM Drive or Operating System or BIOS the program does not recognize your computer anymore and the registration box will appear again.

Send me the new activation codes and I will be able to determine if it is the same computer and will issue another activation code if it is the same computer with changed components. There is no charge for this service.

I am buying a new computer - or want to put my guide on another of my own computers.

If you want to install the license on a new computer you must uninstall the license from your old computer first.

To uninstall the guide, hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys when you start the program.

The following box appears:

First enter the activation code that you received to activate the guide (this is to prevent anyone else from uninstalling your guide).

Then click on the radio-button that says "Remove license" and click on ACTIVATE.

You will be asked if you want to uninstall the license. Click OK and the following box will appear:

Write down the Remove Code!!

Now put the program-ROM into your new computer and follow the instructions for activation to get the new registration codes.

IMPORTANT: Before sending the Email with the new Site and MID registration codes, you must enter the Remove Code AND the serial number of the disk which is on the label of the program-ROM.

Then send the email and we will reply with the activation code - normally within 24 hours.

If the computer is not on-line or the email does not open automatically you can copy the Site Code and MID code (highlight the code by clicking on the box and dragging over the number then hold down the Ctrl key and press the C key at the same time (Ctrl+C).

Open a word file or notepad and paste (Ctrl +V) the code into the file. Do the same for the MID code. Then add the disk serial number from the disk label and save the file on a USB key. You can email it as an attachment to an email from another computer which is online.

If you decide to copy the code by hand onto a piece of paper and send it from an Internet Cafe, please note there are no letter os, only zeros and no letter ls, only ones.

When we send you the activation code, put the program back into the SAME computer you sent the registration codes from and the registration box will appear again.

Enter the new code in the box labeled Activation code and then click on "Continue".

That's it. The guide will now work on that computer even if you copy the guide to the hard drive.

The guide works MUCH faster from the hard drive and you don't have to look for the disk every time you want to use it.

You can copy the guide to your hard disk by clicking on the help icon ? and clicking on the link to load the guide onto your hard drive (in the middle of the page). To remove it later, just delete the folder containing the guide from your C: drive.

What if I can't uninstall the license?

If you are unable to uninstall the old license, for example if your computer is lost or stolen or completely inoperable, there is a fee of $49.50 for a new license. This option is only valid for ONE re-issue of a license.

Can I install the guide on two computers, for backup purposes?

We will issue you a second activation code for a backup computer for a fee of $49.50. This is valid for only one backup computer. The license must be removed from one or both computers for future re-activations.

How do I upgrade to the latest version? During 2009 we made many improvements to the Vanuatu guides, added new anchorages and information. If you would like the latest versions of the cruising guide and the tourism guide click the Buy Now button below. On the checkout form be SURE to include the serial number printed on your cruising guide program label. The upgrade will work using your existing license. We will contact you by email and you can either download the new updates or we will send you new copies of the two programs (although you may have to wait up to 4 or 5 weeks for the post office to get around to delivering them).

You can cruise the south Pacific and earn money at the same time

Become the captain or crew on a magnificent superyacht. Not only would you get to travel in luxury surroundings with great food, you would be paid, too. You could be a superyacht deckhand, a steward or superyacht stewardess, a cook, or first mate, or the captain. It all depends on your training and qualifications. The best place to get your training is at Club Sail's Superyacht Crew Academy, based in Sydney Australia. You will need to take a stcw95 course , which is now required for all crew on superyachts - even private ones. You'll learn basic but necessary fire fighting and other skills. You can start out with no qualifications at all with Superyacht Crew Academy's Fastrack programs. If you take the fastrack professional crew course, you can, in one concentrated training semester, go from zero experience to a qualified superyacht crew position or even all the way to a superyacht captain position qualification. If you already have some sailing qualifications you can get qualified as superyacht crew member or superyacht captain posting in a much shorter course. Once you are qualified, the Superyacht Crew Academy will help you in finding a superyacht position.
