Activation of the Cruising Guide to Vanuatu

The cruising guide must be activated for the computer you intend to use it on while cruising.

To activate the cruising guide please go through the following steps:

  1. Put the Cruising Guide CD into the CD drive of the computer you intend to use it on while cruising. (If you are using a downloaded version and have unzipped it successfully, just double go to the CRUISINGVANUATU folder and double-click on the CRUISINGVANUATU.EXE file.)
  2. A registration window like the one below should appear automatically with two codes in red boxes - a Site Code and a MID code.
  3. If nothing happens when you put in the CD then you need to open Windows Explorer (the file manager for windows). Click on “computer” and then on the “DVD (or CD) Drive” This will allow you to see the files on the CD. Double-click on NCALCRUISING.exe (the file with the round, grey icon with an f on it).

Then you will see the following registration window.

Note the two red boxes with the Site Code and MID code.

activation

If the computer you will use the guide on while cruising is connected to the Internet and you use an email program like Outlook:

  1. Click on the button that says "Email Codes" to open a pre-addressed email with the codes already in it.
  2. Before actually sending the Email add the serial number of the disk which is on the CD-ROM label - (or the order number from your download email).
  3. Send the email and we will reply with the activation code - normally within 24 hours.

If the computer you will use the guide on while cruising is connected to the Internet and you use an online email program like Hotmail or Gmail:

  1. Log on to your email program and address a new email to
  2. Return to the registration window and copy the Site Code (highlight the code by clicking on the box and dragging over the number then press and hold down the Ctrl key and press the C key at the same time (Ctrl+C).
  3. Go back to the email program and paste the Site code (Ctrl+V) into the email.
  4. Repeat the copy and paste process for the MID code.
  5. Add the serial number from the CD (or the order number from the download email) and send the email.

If the computer you will use the guide on while cruising is not connected to the Internet:

  1. Open a word file or notepad and paste the codes into that.
  2. Save the file on a USB key.
  3. Go to an Internet Café or to another computer that can access the Internet and put the USB key into that computer.
  4. Log into your email account and open a new email and address it to
    activate.
  5. Select “attach a file” from the menu bar and browse to the USB key to select the file with the codes.
  6. Send the reply when the file has uploaded.

If you decide to hand copy the codes onto a piece of paper and send it from an Internet Cafe, please note the codes contain no letter "o", only zeros and no letter "l" or "i", only ones.

Also include the dashes between the groups of letters and numbers.

When we send you the activation code, put the CD back into the SAME computer you sent the registration codes from (or start the downloaded program CRUISINGVANUATU.EXE) and the registration window will appear again.

Copy and paste the activation code into the box that says “activation code” or, if you enter it by typing, don’t forget there are no letter os, only zeros and no letter i or L, only the number one.

Finally click on ACTIVATE. (If the activation fails you have entered the activation code incorrectly or are using a different computer from the one you sent the registration codes from).

That's it. The guide will now work on that computer even if you copy the guide to the hard drive.

The guide works MUCH faster from the hard drive and you don't have to look for the disk every time you want to use it.

You can copy the guide to your hard disk by clicking on the help icon ? and clicking on the link to load the guide onto your hard drive (in the middle of the page).

This will make a folder on your C drive called CRUISINGVANUATU and copy the contents of the CD into it.

The program should also copy a shortcut called VANCRUISING.lnk to your desktop - but often Vista won't allow this. If there is no shortcut to the guide on your desktop after the program has finished copying all the other files you'll need to open the C:/VANUATU folder in Windows file manager and then drag the VANCRUISING shortcut onto your desktop.

To remove the guide just delete the folder containing the guide from your C: drive.

If you want to put the guide onto another computer or have an activation question click here.
